Zhijun Zhen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geographic Information Science, College of Geo-exploration Science and Technology, Jilin University. He received his Ph.D. from Jilin University and participated in a CSC (China Scholarship Council) joint training program at the University of Toulouse III (Paul Sabatier University) in France. He also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre d'Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphère (CESBIO), University of Toulouse III.
His research primarily focuses on quantitative remote sensing, 3D vegetation and urban modeling, radiative transfer modeling, and the retrieval of key land surface parameters. He specializes in employing the DART model and differentiable modeling to solve optical and thermal infrared properties retrieval problems in complex mixed pixels.
He currently serves as a Guest Editor for the journal Remote Sensing, an Advisory Board Member for Preprints.org, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Jilin Society for Remote Sensing. He has been a long-term independent reviewer for more than 20 top-tier SCI journals, including Remote Sensing of Environment (RSE), ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (TGRS). He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of one Young Scientists Fund Project (Category C) supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
