Jiafei Xu, Ph.D., is a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor in the College of Geoexploration Science and Technology at Jilin University, where he is also a Tang Aoqing Scholar Leading Professor.

He received his B.Sc. degree in Remote Sensing Science and Technology from Shandong Agricultural University in 2015 and his M.Sc. degree from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2019, where he was supervised by Academician Bing Zhang, Prof. Zhengchao Chen, and Associate Prof. Hao Zhang. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Zhi Zhao Liu, and subsequently continued as a postdoctoral researcher in the same department from 2024 to 2025. He joined Jilin University in April 2026 and was appointed Professor.

His research focuses on atmospheric remote sensing, with research interests spanning atmospheric radiative transfer modeling, atmospheric parameter retrieval, remote sensing product improvement, intelligent analysis and information extraction from remote sensing big data, and remote sensing product development and applications. He has led and participated in more than 10 research projects funded by Jilin University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Key Research and Development Program of China.

Over the past five years, he has published more than 20 papers as the first author in leading international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (IEEE TGRS) and Geophysical Research Letters (GRL). His publications include 21 SCI-indexed papers and 16 papers in CAS Q1 TOP journals, with one recognized as a Wiley Top Cited Article. He serves as a reviewer for more than 10 leading SCI journals in remote sensing and geosciences and has served on the Scientific Committee  of the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) 2025 and 2026. He has received the PolyU Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme and the CPGNSS Outstanding Paper Award, among other honors.
