Ø The interested researches include the dynamics of excited molecule and cluster systems and the microscopic properties (like structure etc.) of these systems. The motivation of such research is to understand the fundamental of microscopic processes as well as apply the obtained properties to practical use, such as fabricating novel materials.
Ø However, the controlling of chemical reactions is more challenging. The controlling of outcomes, through methods like coherent control or wave packet control or chirped femtosecond pulse control, etc., will make mankind not only understand what happened in the microscopic world but also know how to design the reaction, which will definitely have wide applications.
Ø The controlling of laser-material interaction is also of interest, especially if one can control such a normally considered incoherent process coherently. We study the designing of laser pulse shape and phase that will drive the initial coherent process, which might have strong influence of laser melting or ablation. This kind of study links the fundamental physical or chemical problem to applications like micromachining, laser surgery etc.
