Zhao Qinglong is a Professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Jilin University. He joined the faculty in June 2015 as an associate  professor and was promoted to professor in September 2020.

Professor Zhao holds a Ph.D. from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Materials Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University (2003–2010).

His research primarily focuses on the microstructure control of metallic materials during processing, particularly involving solidification processes such as casting, welding, and additive manufacturing. His specific research areas include:

• Additive Manufacturing: Microstructure control and strengthening/toughening mechanisms.

• New Material Development: Focusing on aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, alloy steels, and superalloys.

• Ceramic Synthesis: Crystal growth of carbides and borides.

Professor Zhao has established a strong track record in scientific research and funding:

• Projects: He has served as the principal investigator for projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as four projects from the Jilin Provincial Department of Science and Technology and one from the Jilin Provincial Department of Education.

• Publications: He has published over 60 SCI papers in prestigious journals such as Journal of Materials Science & Technology, Materials Research Letters, and Corrosion Science. 

• Patents: He has been granted ten invention patents.

• Presentations: He has delivered over ten invited talks at domestic and international academic conferences.

• Director, Solidification Branch, Chinese Materials Research Society (2023–2028).

• Editorial Board Member, Precision Forming Engineering (in Chinese) (2017–2021).
